With 67 Days Left in 2024

With 67 days left in the year, I wanted to include a few charts that will help give some perspective for the year, so far.

First here's a chart of homicide totals from 2000 through today.

This chart indicates the geographical distribution of homicides for 2024, so far.

For comparison, here's the geographic distribution for 2023:

To add insight into the geographical distribution, seeing the homicides by Zip Code may be helpful:

The same chart for last year, 2023

Finally here are homicides by day-of-the-week, 2024 to date:

And for 2023:

Since January 1, 2000, the Coroner has recorded 772 homicides in Fort Wayne/Allen County

The fine print;

·        All information is provided by public news releases from the Allen County Coroner’s office and/or at least 2 confirmed media reports
·        For the sake of consistency and accuracy of the Remembering Fort Wayne Homicide Victims blog and database, homicide is defined by Indiana statute. In Indiana, homicide is defined as the killing of one person by another. The term is neutral and doesn't assign blame. Indiana's homicide statutes are in Title 35, Chapter 1 of the Indiana Code.
·        Remembering Fort Wayne Homicide Victims does not track suicides, however, in the case of a homicide/suicide, the Coroner’s release may name the suicide victim’s name, as is the Coroner’s protocol and legal, and statutory requirements as contained in Indiana Code, Section 36-2-14-18. In keeping with transparency, Remembering Fort Wayne Homicide Victims does not edit or redact information in the Cornoner’s releases.
·        Media: Information and graphics may be used, provided proper credit is given to the Remembering Fort Wayne Homicide Victims blog

·        This blog, statistical assembly, and analysis are intended to be a public resource and serve as a way to remember the victims and comfort their families so their loved ones are never forgotten.
